OUR PROJECTS

PANCAKE BREAKFAST

The Mount Joy Lions Club conducts an annual Pancake Breakfast as one of our major fundraising activities.  The 2012 Pancake Breakfast will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at the Trinity Lutheran Church located at the corner of Route 772 and Main Street in Mount Joy.  The Club raised aproximately $500.00 in 2011 that was used to support community related projects conducted by the Club.

DIME PITCH CARNIVAL STAND

The Club participates in the annual Mount Joy Carnival, now called the Mount Joy Community Popcorn Festival usually held at Kunkel Field during the week preceeding Memorial Day.  We provide a "Dime Pitch" stand type amusement at which Festival goers may try to win various types of glassware (mugs, glasses, etc.) by throwing dimes into glasses.  Any member of the community who would like to donate glassware to this project can contact Lion Charles Peterman, project chairperson.

OTHER PROJECTS CONDUCTED BY THE CLUB EACH YEAR

WHITE CANE PROJECTS

The Club conducts a fund collection project each October which is designated by Lions Clubs International as White Cane Month.  Our Fall 2012 project was conducted on Friday and Saturday  October 22nd and 23rd at Darrenkamp's Market in Mount Joy.  We collected funds as well as used eye glasses at that time.  All funds collected are contributed to the Susquehanna Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired in Lancaster.  The Club raised in excess of $1000 with our 2011 project, all of which was donated to SABVI.

USED EYE GLASS COLLECITON

The Club maintains a collection box for used eye glasses at the entrance of the Milanof-Schock Library on Anderson Ferry Road in Mount Joy.  Glasses are collected and then forwarded to the Susquehanna Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired which will, through Lens Crafters, recondition them and then arrange for distribution in foreign countries around the world.
